The crank on the side turns and the threaded press arm can be loosened or tightened

but to me this makes it rather all the more beautiful

which it closely follows from  the form of the carved body

Fine Hand-painted Japanese Composition Doll hand tool and everything looks good inI am not entirely certain if this doll is vintage or antique, but would think sometime 1920s 40s, and I think she is so lovely. Her head, forearms and lower legs are composition, sewn to a cloth torso which seems to be stuffed with sawdust, as there seems to be a tiny hole somewhere from which a tiny bit of it has come out. Some staining to her top and a little wear to the top of the arms, but overall very good condition, with braided hair on the top
