This is an exceptional example of a true model 1890 Springfield Carbine. The 1890 model designation indicates that this original 1873 Carbine was completely upgraded by the army after 1887. The upgrades made in 1887 1890 were as follows: Stock replacement, unmarked, with compartment for cleaning rod and broken shell extractor. Butt plate with sliding access cover. Low arch breechblock dated 1873. Buffington rear
