We are not sure what type of helmet it originally was, though it is blue on the interior under the liner, so it may have been a Luftwaffe helmet. The USGI who captured it painted the entire outside and the inside of the skirt black, and then hand panted a Heer Army style Wehrmachtadler Eagle
