Weird and Wonderful Folk Art Carved Vertebrae (?) Bone Bat! pretty darning egg if I had to guess

if I had to guess

one small knick in the wood near the front leg on one side

and also large enough to make a nice sculptural object for the wall

this one seems the oldest and also is the one that does not fit over the head and stay on by itself--I am not sure if the hide along the top of the mask has come apart a bit from how it was originally constructed

Its a bat, but appears to have been carved from what I think must have been a lumbar vertebrae, I would guess from a cow. One hole was drilled through for the eyes and a slit for the beak, and Im not quite sure what other interventions! The whole thing was stained and mounted to a wooden panel, which has a good amount of age. Pretty excellent, and though Ive seen a few other folk art creations made of
