Wonderful Wedding Present Pastel Bowl of Fruit by Great Aunt Mollie, c. 1919, At Age 81 1930s relief carving to making paper planesThis is one of two artworks found in Nashville that were done by 80+ year old women, which in and of itself makes me happy, and even more happily they are both great things. The age of the makers also reminds one of the fact that things made by a person at one point in time carry that maker's whole history of reference points; in the case of this pastel, for example, the Aunt Mollie who drew it would have been born in 1838 (as indicated from the note
