Description

I spotted this one from a distance in a case and made a bee-line for it--the combination of the lush red white and blues of the taped perimeter in combination with the matte gray of the slate makes it to my eye a most gorgeous thing

and something tells me from Nova Scotia but that's just a hunch

which I think don't at all detract

these four notebooks appear to have been the property of a couple of different members of the Heath family of Boston--I can clearly read John Heath on one

Man Jumping Fence Chasing Rabbit, 19th Century Papier Mache Snuff Box with Hand-painting F. Barber drawing I spotted this one fromI can't quite tell if our man here in red hat jumping the fence is holding a rifle that blends in with the trunk stump of this tree or not, but I take the larger animal as his hunting dog, and believe they're both after that rabbit. Happily, seems like pretty good odds on the rabbit getting away! To me the whole thing seems like a pointed portrayal of the awkward encumbrances humans have created for themselves. 2 7 8" d, lacquered papier mache snuff
