Its iconic grid pattern was originally developed to defeat early generation Soviet night vision devices. Unfortunately by the time DNC was issued, night vision devices had progressed enough to make it mostly obsolete. Despite it not being as effective as desert night camo (where it even performed worse than over whites) its tendency to stand out is perfect
