This is an original German WWII maroon dress fez associated with the 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar (1st Croatian). Retaining its original embroidered insignia, black tassel, and leather sweatband, it is an appealing service used example of the distinctive headgear worn by personnel of this predominantly Bosnian Muslim formation. The fez is constructed from maroon wool felt with a soft, fuzzy nap.
